Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur and Medanta - The Medicity ties-up to give Karnataka a Liver Transplant Centre

Bangalore: Reinforcing Karnataka’s growing image as the healthcare destination of India, Columbia Asia Referral Hospital, Yeshwanthpur announced the launch of a Liver Transplant Centre on Wednesday. The announcement comes as a major boost to the scenario of Karnataka as hitherto people had to travel to Chennai and Delhi for Liver transplants.
The operations of the facility will be managed by Columbia Asia in association with Medanta – The Medicity. Padmashri Dr. A.S. Soin, Chairman of Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine along with Dr. Balachandran Menon and other senior doctors from Medanta will work closely with the Dr. Naresh Bhat, HOD – Gastroenterology, Dr. George Alexandar, Consultant Hepatologist, and the transplant team at Columbia Asia Referral Hospital – Yeshwanthpur.
Dr. Soin is credited with almost all the firsts in Liver transplantation in India. He and his team have more than 1200 liver transplants to their credit. Well established protocols and evidence based practice has resulted in excellent clinical outcomes. The association between Medanta and Columbia Asia will benefit the people of this part of the country with similar standards and outcomes.
Columbia Asia Hospitals in association with Medanta – The Medicity has also organsied a specilised Liver Assessment Clinic on March 11th 2012 at the referral hospital at Yeshwanthpur. At the clinic, Padmashri Dr. A.S. Soin, India’s premier Liver transplant surgeon along with his team of doctors from Medanta will be available for consultation.

Liver diseases are responsible for lakhs of deaths each year in India. Hepatitis B alone accounts for an estimated 50 million chronic carriers who are at high risk of progressing towards a permanently damaged liver.
